LATIN AMERICA SEES INVESTMENT SURGE
The United Nations Conference on Trade and development said that Latin America and the Caribbean last year overtook Asia as the most attractive developing region for foreign investment, the first time this has happened since 1986. Unctad's preliminary estimates show that foreign direct investment into Latin America and the Caribbean jumped 32 per cent in 1999 to US97 bn from US73 bn in 1998.
