A TAXING TRADE DISPUTE
Tema(s): En: Financial Times 25 feb. 2000, p. 12Resumen: Yesterday's final decision by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in favour of a European Union complaint against a US tax loophole for exports is a tribute to the body's institutional independence. The temptation to fudge the verdict in so important and sensitive a dispute between two such powerful adversaries must have been strong. That it was resisted shows courage, integrity and maturity. The two litigants must now demonstrate these qualities in facing up to the ruling's consequences. The timing of the dispute is doubly problematic. The debacle of the WTO's Seattle meeting has left the world trade system perilously fragile. It could be damaged irreparably by further US-EU brawling of the kind provoked by their differences over bananas and beef last year.Tipo de ítem | Biblioteca actual | Signatura topográfica | Info Vol | Estado | Fecha de vencimiento | Código de barras | |
